China says US Cold War mentality and ideological bias stem from lack of confidence
Mainstream of China-US relations is cooperation, competition is normal
[Asia Economy Beijing=Special Correspondent Jo Young-shin] China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs criticized U.S. President Joe Biden's repeated expression of intent to contain China as a "country that violates international rules on its own."
On the 28th (local time), President Biden sent a strong warning to China during his joint address to Congress, expressing his determination to maintain U.S. technological supremacy.
Wang Wenbin, spokesperson for China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said at a regular briefing on the 29th, "The United States repeatedly destroys international rules and violates the principles of fair market competition," adding, "The U.S. is a country whose words and actions differ."
He continued, "The United States has politicized the economy and science and technology, abused national power to suppress the development of other countries, and has been condemned by the international community."
Wang also pointed out, "The U.S. always mentions China whenever it speaks," stating, "This stems from a Cold War mentality and ideological prejudice, which means a lack of confidence."
However, he emphasized the necessity of cooperation between China and the U.S. Wang said, "The main current of China-U.S. relations should be cooperation, and competition in some areas is normal," reiterating, "China has consistently followed the path of peaceful development and has been a builder of world peace and a defender of the international order." He added, "We (China) will firmly safeguard sovereignty, security, and development interests while developing a mutually respectful and win-win relationship with the United States without confrontation or opposition."
Regarding President Biden's criticism of China's human rights issues, Wang countered, "Democracy is a common value of all humanity, and a country's democracy is created by its own people," adding, "Forcing other countries to adopt one's own system is an insult to democratic values."
In his joint address, President Biden mentioned, "I told President Xi Jinping that the United States will not back down from its commitment to human rights and fundamental freedoms."
