Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Saewool Nuclear Power Headquarters (Head Lee Sang-min) conducted a full-scale radiation disaster prevention drill for Shin-Kori Unit 3 on the 29th to prepare for natural disasters and accident situations.
The drill assumed a situation where abnormality occurred in the safety system of Shin-Kori Unit 3 due to strong winds in the area near the nuclear power plant, causing radioactive materials inside the reactor building to leak into the atmosphere.
Through the drill, which included the establishment and operation of the radiation disaster response organization, communication of the situation to external agencies, and recommendations for protective measures for workers and residents, the emergency response capabilities of radiation emergency personnel were evaluated.
Lee Sang-min, head of Saewool Nuclear Power Headquarters, said, “We have confidence in securing nuclear power plant safety regardless of any emergency situation, and it was a good opportunity to thoroughly check the emergency response capabilities for emergency accidents within the power plant.”
He added, “We will conduct thorough training even during normal times to enhance crisis response capabilities so that the public can feel assured in emergency situations.”
This drill was conducted in compliance with policies to prevent the spread of COVID-19, including social distancing, disinfection of the training site, and individual hygiene measures.
