[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] The number of COVID-19 vaccine recipients in South Korea surpassed 3 million on the 29th.

The COVID-19 Vaccination Response Promotion Team announced that as of 3:30 PM on the same day, the number of people who received the COVID-19 vaccine in South Korea (based on the first dose) was tentatively counted at 3,012,654.

The number of COVID-19 vaccine recipients in South Korea exceeded 1 million on the 5th of this month, just 39 days after vaccinations began on February 26, and surpassed 2 million on the 22nd, 17 days later. Since then, another 1 million people were added within a week.

The Promotion Team explained, "This is thanks to strengthening vaccination capacity through the additional opening of vaccination centers and early operation of entrusted medical institutions, efforts to expand the target population according to the vaccination order, the public's active participation in vaccination trusting experts and the government, and the medical staff who safely carried out the vaccinations."

They added, "The originally established vaccination plan is progressing smoothly, and about 80% of vaccinations have been carried out in nursing hospitals and facilities where there were many severe cases and deaths. Vaccinations for essential social workers are also accelerating."

The Promotion Team stated that they plan to strengthen adverse reaction monitoring together with the medical community and continue compensation for damages so that the public can receive vaccinations with greater confidence. Additionally, they added a plan to achieve 12 million vaccine recipients (based on the first dose) by the end of June, targeting the elderly, high-risk groups, and quarantine and medical personnel.
