Gwangyang Steelworks Partners Association Selects Outstanding Partners and Employees for Q2

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] The Gwangyang Steelworks Partners Association (Chairman Lee Kwang-yong) announced on the 29th that it selected Taewoon Co., Ltd. (CEO Kang Ju-seong) as an excellent partner company that significantly strengthened workplace safety through various improvement activities, and Park Hyo-gwan, Senior Manager of Daejin Co., Ltd. (CEO Lee Myung-hak), as an outstanding employee.

Taewoon Co., Ltd., selected as an excellent partner company, is a specialized in-house transportation company established in June 2010, responsible for transporting slag, a byproduct of the steelmaking process at Gwangyang Steelworks.

Since 2015, it has been highly evaluated for leading the prevention of serious accidents through ‘smart safety management’ by building the ‘Smart Taewoon’ system based on IoT (Internet of Things) and big data.

A representative example is the forklift collision prevention alert system.

When a forklift equipped with a transmitter approaches near a worker, the safety helmet and wristband receivers send vibration alerts to prevent collisions between the forklift and the worker in advance.

Also, last year, before workers raise the dump truck bed to unload transported goods, they developed an ‘Inclination Recognition System’ that informs the ground slope to prevent tipping accidents. Since the dump bed is supported by only one prop, it is vulnerable to tipping due to ground slope, so the system alerts workers in advance about the slope to help them assess the risk.

Park Hyo-gwan, Senior Manager, selected as an outstanding employee, has been responsible for sample processing at the material processing plant for 14 years and contributed to safety and quality improvement through various proposals, earning recognition as a model employee. In particular, last year, he created an automatic front-back switching device using the weight of heavy samples and was selected as the best improvement case.

This year, he is working hard to prevent entrapment and cutting accidents caused by equipment such as saws and presses by installing protective shields that prevent hands from touching the machine during operation or adjusting the sample position without hand contact during sample processing.

Lee Kwang-yong, Chairman of the Gwangyang Steelworks Partners Association, awarded Taewoon Co., Ltd. and Senior Manager Park Hyo-gwan of Daejin Co., Ltd., and urged them to “fulfill their roles as business partners of a global steel company by achieving mutual communication and trust, and co-prosperity between labor and management.”

Meanwhile, since 2019, the Gwangyang Steelworks Partners Association has been selecting and rewarding excellent partner companies and outstanding employees quarterly by choosing themes such as safety activities, social contribution activities, and corporate citizenship practices.
