Yongsan-gu Holds Onmaeul Care Project Meeting

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yongsan-gu (District Mayor Seong Jang-hyun) held a meeting on the Onmaeul Care Project for after-school daycare centers in the district office's large conference room on the 28th.

The purpose was to establish continuous win-win and cooperation plans among the project stakeholders.

The event lasted for one hour, proceeding in the order of opening declaration, introduction of attendees, progress report, project status presentation, and discussion of future plans. Attendees included Jeong Jae-hee, Director of the Women and Family Division, Kim Kyung-wook, Head of the District Village Autonomy Center, Min Se-hyun, Chairman of the Hyochang-dong Residents' Autonomy Association, Nam Ki-chul, Chairman of the Yongmun-dong Residents' Autonomy Association, and Baek Yong-dae, CSR Team Leader of LG Uplus.

Kim Kyung-wook, Head of the District Village Autonomy Center, said, “To establish and expand the Onmaeul Care Project, we will continuously discover exchange and cooperation projects,” and suggested, “Let's consider various activity plans to bridge the educational gap during the COVID-19 situation.”

Baek Yong-dae, CSR Team Leader of LG Uplus, stated, “It is no exaggeration to say that urban competitiveness depends on education,” adding, “LG Uplus will support efforts to enhance the competitiveness of the region.”

The district office, Village Autonomy Center, Hyochang-dong and Yongmun-dong Residents' Autonomy Associations, and LG Uplus have been collaborating on the Onmaeul Care Project since the end of last year.

The District Village Autonomy Center has supported learning and care for children at after-school daycare centers in the area by receiving talent donations from the Hyochang-dong and Yongmun-dong Residents' Autonomy Associations and local university students.

The Hyochang-dong and Yongmun-dong Residents' Autonomy Associations have planned this year ▲ COVID-19 Daily Life Record Exhibition (May) ▲ Intergenerational Handwritten Letter Writing (June) ▲ Hyochang Park Ecological Exploration (July), among other activities.

At the end of last year, LG Uplus provided 80 tablet PCs for the ‘U+ Elementary Country’ educational content to after-school daycare centers in Hyochang-dong and Yongmun-dong, and will offer the service free of charge for the next two years. U+ Elementary Country is a learning application embedded with content such as 'EBS Smart Perfect King' and 'U+ Kids Live Library.'

Seong Jang-hyun, Mayor of Yongsan-gu, said, “It takes a whole village to raise a child,” and added, “We will make every effort to resolve the educational gap and care neglect among low-income children caused by COVID-19, and work with local companies and village autonomy associations to help children grow up properly.”
