Implementation of Traffic Diversion on Gwangju Urban Railway Line 2, Hoijaero Section and Others

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] The Urban Railway Construction Headquarters of Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 29th that it will implement traffic diversion next month to expand the construction sections in some parts of Hoijaero in Pungam-dong, Seo-gu, and Uncheon-ro in Geumho-dong.

The Hoijaero section in Pungam-dong will occupy one lane in both directions centered on the center line, from the intersection in front of Pungam Sports Park to the intersection in front of Wonkwang University Hospital. From the 4th of next month, only 4 lanes will be available for traffic out of the current 8 lanes.

The Uncheon-ro section in Geumho-dong will occupy the 3 lanes toward Punggeum Intersection and 1 lane toward Uncheon Reservoir, from the intersection in front of Sangmu Middle School to the intersection at Geumho 119 Safety Center.

From the Lotte Super intersection in front of Geumho Shiyeong Apartment to Punggeum Intersection, two lanes in both directions centered on the center line will be occupied, and around the 20th of next month, only 4 lanes will be available for traffic out of the current 8 lanes.

Due to the nature of the construction of Urban Railway Line 2, which is being built underground beneath the road, the traffic diversion will be implemented step-by-step by securing two lanes in both directions and changing the signal system to minimize inconvenience to citizens caused by road occupation.

The Urban Railway Construction Headquarters has agreed on traffic management plans with related organizations in advance for this traffic diversion, and plans to actively promote it through the installation of various safety facilities, construction guide signs, road surface markings, and pre-construction banners and guide signs.

Jung Dae-kyung, head of the Urban Railway Construction Headquarters, said, “Please maintain a safe speed and distance between vehicles when passing through the traffic diversion sections,” and added, “It is recommended to take detours as much as possible immediately after the traffic diversion, when congestion is expected to be the worst.”
