According to the legal community on the 29th, the Criminal Appeal Division 1-2 of the Seoul Western District Court (Presiding Judge Park Yang-jun) sentenced A (40), who was tried for violating the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment, etc. of Sexual Crimes (filming and distribution using cameras, etc.), to 1 year and 6 months in prison, the same as the original sentence.
A was indicted for secretly filming women's legs or under their skirts a total of 757 times from July 12 to November 8 last year. He put his cellphone in a paper bag with a hole and secretly filmed women's bodies.
A received a suspended indictment for similar illegal filming charges in 2016 and was sentenced to 10 months in prison with 2 years probation in 2018 for secretly filming 42 times.
The court stated, "Considering the social danger of the crime, where he indiscriminately filmed victims' bodies 757 times immediately after the probation period for the same type of offense ended, the original sentence does not seem excessively harsh."
The first trial court sentenced A to 1 year and 6 months in prison, ordered him to complete 80 hours of sexual violence treatment programs, and imposed a 5-year employment restriction at child and youth-related institutions and welfare facilities for the disabled. A appealed, claiming the original sentence was too harsh.
