[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jinyoung] National Assembly Speaker Park Byeong-seok announced on the 29th, "The agenda to elect the Chairperson of the Steering Committee and the Chairperson of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee will be decided at the first plenary session in May."

Speaker Park made this decision after meeting with the ruling and opposition floor leaders in the morning to hear their opinions on the legislative schedule.

The Democratic Party of Korea planned to vote on the election of the Chairpersons of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee and the Steering Committee at the plenary session scheduled for the afternoon. The Democratic Party nominated Park Gwang-on, a three-term lawmaker, as Chairperson of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee, and Yoon Ho-jung, the floor leader and emergency committee chairman, as Chairperson of the Steering Committee.

Speaker Park's decision to postpone the schedule for electing the standing committee chairpersons appears to reflect the People Power Party's position that more time is needed for discussions on the formation of committees. The People Power Party is preparing to elect a new floor leader on the 30th.
