Gwangju Seobu Fire Station Implements 'Fire Prevention Measures' for Buddha's Birthday

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Gwangju Seobu Fire Station (Chief Lee Cheontaek) announced on the 29th that it will implement fire prevention measures in preparation for Buddha's Birthday until the 20th of next month.

This initiative was promoted to prepare for fires caused by increased use of fire sources such as electricity and gas, including the installation of lanterns for the celebration events.

Looking at the fire occurrence statistics nationwide over the past five years, the number of fires in the month including Buddha's Birthday increased by 44.4% compared to the previous month.

Since fires caused by negligence account for 42.4% of the total fires, safety education and inspection of firefighting facilities are necessary.

Accordingly, Seobu Fire Station decided to implement fire prevention measures including ▲special fire inspections to check the maintenance and management status of firefighting facilities at 19 religious temples and cultural assets in the jurisdiction ▲mobile patrols and fire prevention campaigns by firefighters and volunteer fire brigades ▲training on the use of firefighting facilities installed in traditional temples ▲forward deployment of firefighting forces to establish initial response readiness and cooperation systems with related organizations.

Lee Cheontaek, Chief of Seobu Fire Station, said, “To spend Buddha's Birthday meaningfully in a safe environment, the cooperation of citizens is necessary,” and added, “Please pay more attention than usual when handling fire sources.”
