[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] U.S. President Joe Biden emphasized the crisis of democracy ahead of his first joint session of Congress address on the 28th (local time). This is interpreted as showing strong vigilance toward China, which has challenged democratic forces.

As he is expected to express a tough stance on China in the joint address, the U.S.-China relationship is likely to enter an even more complex phase.

CNN reported that President Biden told some reporters before his congressional speech on the 28th (local time), "We are watching to see whether democracy will succeed in the 21st century."

President Biden said, "The world is changing too rapidly in all fields, including science and technology. The question is whether democracy can reach consensus within the timeframe to compete with autocracy."

He added, "Chinese President Xi Jinping is betting that democracy will not catch up with China."

Biden’s remarks are interpreted as a preview that he will request support for U.S. job plans and American family plans to compete with China during the joint session address.

Multiple U.S. media outlets reported that President Biden will say in the speech that it is necessary to verify whether democracy works and that he has acted to restore public trust in democracy during his first 100 days in office.
