[Asia Economy Yang Nak-gyu, Military Specialist Reporter] On the 28th, construction materials and other supplies will be brought into the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) base operated by the US Forces Korea, located in Seongju-gun, Gyeongbuk.

The Ministry of National Defense stated on the day, "We plan to support the transportation of construction materials and supplies for facility improvements to enhance the working conditions of ROK-US soldiers at the Seongju base, as well as the replacement of a mobile generator and the ground transportation of support equipment." They clarified that the equipment being brought in this time is not related to the upcoming second phase performance upgrade of THAAD.

About 40 vehicles will be brought into the THAAD base on this day. Among them, 9 Korean vehicles carrying food and corrosion prevention materials, 10 US vehicles related to the main power plant unit (PPU) that supplies power to all equipment, 15 vehicles carrying construction materials, and 1 vehicle for waste removal are scheduled to enter the THAAD base.

The Ministry of National Defense explained, "Two generators were deployed within the Seongju base in 2017 to support the operation of the THAAD system," and added, "One of them is scheduled to be replaced." The Ministry also informed local residents about this supply transportation plan. To prevent conflicts with nearby residents, the police deployed about 2,000 personnel from 25 companies. The military plans to replace the PPU before 1 p.m. and then withdraw.
