[Asia Economy reporters Naju-seok and Jeon Jin-young] If Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung and former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-youl face off in next year's presidential election, former Prosecutor General Yoon is found to be ahead of Governor Lee beyond the margin of error. The two are leading the polls as the top two candidates for the next president.
When asked, "If Governor Lee and former Prosecutor General Yoon face off in the next presidential election, whom would you support?" 47.2% of respondents chose former Prosecutor General Yoon. Governor Lee received 40.0%. Compared to a survey conducted by Asia Economy through Win-G Korea Consulting on January 16-17 this year, support for former Prosecutor General Yoon has increased while Governor Lee's has decreased. At that time, former Prosecutor General Yoon had 45.1% support, and Governor Lee had 42.1%. The survey was conducted nationwide among 1,009 men and women aged 18 and older (sampling error ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level, 100% mobile phone virtual numbers via wireless ARS).
Meanwhile, a notable difference in candidate support by gender was observed in this survey. Among men, 45% supported Governor Lee, and 47.3% supported former Prosecutor General Yoon. Among women, support was 35.0% for Governor Lee and 47.1% for former Prosecutor General Yoon.
In a poll targeting major next presidential candidates, support for former Prosecutor General Yoon was the highest. When asked, "Who is the most suitable candidate for the next president?" 33.8% answered former Prosecutor General Yoon, followed by Governor Lee at 24.1%. Former Democratic Party leader Lee Nak-yeon received 11.3%, independent lawmaker Hong Joon-pyo 5.1%, former Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun 4.2%, and People's Party leader Ahn Cheol-soo 3.4%.
Among those who responded that they support the Democratic Party, 45.2% supported Governor Lee, the highest, followed by former leader Lee Nak-yeon at 25.8%, and former Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun at 9.6%. Among People Power Party supporters, support for former Prosecutor General Yoon was 70.1%, followed by lawmaker Hong Joon-pyo at 9.6% and former lawmaker Yoo Seung-min at 4.4%.

This survey was conducted by Asia Economy through Win-G Korea Consulting targeting voters aged 18 and older nationwide on the 24th and 25th of last month, with 1,008 respondents and an overall response rate of 9.6%. The survey method was 100% mobile phone virtual numbers via wireless ARS, and the sample was extracted using weighted values by gender, age, and region based on the resident registration population as of the end of January 2021 from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety (cell weighting). The sampling error is ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.
