[Asia Economy Reporters Oh Ju-yeon and Park Jun-i] Regardless of the evaluation of President Moon Jae-in's ability to perform state affairs, responses to the question of whether they politically support President Moon showed a close split between ‘support (46.6%)’ and ‘do not support (49.4%).

According to the results announced on the 27th by Asia Economy, which commissioned Win-G Korea Consulting to survey 1,008 men and women nationwide aged 18 and older from the 24th to 25th, the figures were compiled as such. This is similar to the previous survey conducted in the third week of January (support 46.2% vs. non-support 50.4%).

By age group, support was predominant among those in their 30s to 50s, while non-support was dominant among those in their 20s and those aged 60 and above.

By region, support was highest in Gwangju and Jeolla (78.7%), while Gyeonggi-Incheon and Gangwon-Jeju showed roughly equal levels within the margin of error. In other regions, non-support was predominant.

Compared to the previous survey (third week of January), the party support rates showed a slight increase for the Democratic Party of Korea, while there was no change in support for the People Power Party.

Support for the Democratic Party rose by 2.2 percentage points to 32.9%, while the People Power Party remained at 27.6%, the same as in the previous survey. The gap between the two parties was 5.2 percentage points, with the Democratic Party leading within the margin of error.

Support rates for other parties were as follows: People Party 7.3%, Justice Party 5.2%, Open Democratic Party 4.2%, and other parties 3.0%. The proportion of respondents with no party affiliation was 19.7%.

This survey was conducted using 100% automated response system (ARS) with virtual phone numbers, and weights were applied by gender, age, and region. The response rate was 9.6%, and the sampling error was ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.
