'Drone Show Korea' Opens in Busan on the 29th... Gathering of Advanced Drone Industry

[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Haeyoung] The '2021 Drone Show Korea,' hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the Ministry of Science and ICT, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and Busan City, and organized by BEXCO and the Korea Unmanned System Association, will be held for three days from the 29th of this month to the 1st of next month at BEXCO in Busan.


Drone Show Korea, the first domestic drone-specialized international conference (MICE) that started in 2016, will be held this year under the theme 'Connected By Drone.' The event features an exhibition of 417 booths from 134 companies over an area of 17,000㎡, a conference with 51 speakers and chairpersons from 4 countries, and various experiential events.


The exhibition consists of a 'Marine Special Pavilion' specialized in marine drones and a 'Drone-as-a-Service (DaaS) Based Global Ocean City Construction Project Joint Pavilion' (hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and Busan City). There is also a 'Drone Demonstration City Special Pavilion' showcasing cases of new drone services and technologies implemented in actual urban areas, and a 'Drone Regulatory Sandbox Special Pavilion' exhibiting the business achievements of companies participating in the drone regulatory sandbox.


The exhibition includes domestic unmanned aerial vehicle (drone) related companies such as Korean Air, Ucon Systems, Ness & Tech, and Gryphon Dynamics. Doosan Mobility Innovation (DMI) will introduce a new water drone (DS30W) that can be utilized in various industrial sites, and SK Telecom will present the scalability of drones connected through telecommunications. SK E&S will create a hydrogen cooperation pavilion to showcase cases of industrial convergence.


In addition, the Army, which will showcase the drone-bot combat system, along with key domestic unmanned aerial vehicle research and development institutions such as the Korea Aerospace Research Institute, Aviation Safety Technology Institute, Korea Transportation Safety Authority, Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute, and LX Korea Land and Geospatial Informatix Corporation, as well as public demand organizations, will set up exhibition booths.


Gyeongnam Technopark and Yeongwol County will promote the status and development plans of their regional drone industries, and Busan Technopark will hold a 'Drone Companies Overseas Expansion Case Sharing Webinar' to support domestic companies' overseas expansion.


The conference, held over two days from the 29th to the 30th, will include keynote speeches and sessions by research institutions, UAM (Urban Air Mobility), defense, and other sectors.


On the first day, the keynote speech will be delivered by Stefan Bauer, Vice President of the consulting firm Roland Berger, who will analyze the responses of advanced countries and global companies to the emergence of urban air mobility and present opportunities and prospects for the new air transportation ecosystem.


The UAM session will feature Kyle Clark, CEO of BETA Technologies from the United States, and the defense session will include participation from the Army and the Agency for Defense Development to discuss the development direction of defense drones.


Additionally, various events related to drone leisure culture will be held, including an FPV (first-person view) drone racing competition, a youth drone soccer tournament, drone swarm coding education and demonstrations for teenagers, and drone piloting experiences through drone simulators.
