[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jung Won-oh) has installed and begun full operation of ‘Smart Public Transportation Comprehensive Information Kiosks’ and ‘Smart Traffic Notification Systems’ at six locations around Wangsimni Plaza and Ogeori intersection.

The ‘Smart Public Transportation Comprehensive Information Kiosk’ is an information system that provides public transportation users with real-time arrival and route information for buses and subways, along with various information such as weather and daily life.

Each time users select a detailed bus route map, detailed usage instructions are provided, focusing on user convenience for transportation-vulnerable groups such as the elderly.

In particular, it features a ‘non-stop prevention function’ that detects waiting passengers through a human detection sensor when they are standing at the bus stop, displaying their presence on the LED display panel at the top of the kiosk, helping bus drivers avoid the mistake of passing by passengers at the stop.

Additionally, in preparation for the mobility needs of foreign tourists, transportation information is also provided in multiple languages including English.

AI cameras have been installed at the entrance of Haengdang underpass, a traffic blind spot, and at the right-turn area of vehicles at Wangsimni Ogeori intersection. For pedestrians, vehicle entry sensors notify the camera of vehicle presence, and for drivers, mosaic-processed video along with safety messages inform them of pedestrian presence.

By alerting with sound and light, it induces deceleration and raises awareness for both pedestrians and drivers, helping to prevent traffic accidents in blind spots.

Wangsimni Station is a transportation hub where four lines?Subway Lines 2 and 5, Gyeongui-Jungang Line, and Bundang Line?pass through, with over 180 million annual users. Last year, the district promoted the ‘Smart Public Transportation Comprehensive Information Kiosk’ and ‘Smart Traffic Notification System’ as part of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s ‘Smart Town Challenge Project.’

Through the application of smart technology, the district official explained that it will provide convenience to public transportation users, including transportation-vulnerable groups such as the elderly, and solve traffic problems in the Wangsimni area.

Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, said, “We have made transportation information easily accessible to everyone through the Smart Public Transportation Information Kiosk,” and added, “We will continue to implement smart inclusive administration to ensure no one is left behind in technological advancements.”
