[Asia Economy Reporter Yu Je-hoon] Japan's Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications announced on the 26th that it issued administrative guidance in writing to Line, Naver's Japanese subsidiary.
The Ministry had previously requested Line to report on the management status of user information in accordance with the Telecommunications Business Act, regarding the issue where access to users' personal information stored on Japanese servers was possible.
Regarding this, the Ministry stated, "There were some insufficient aspects in safety management measures for internal systems and explanations to users," and "administrative guidance was conducted in writing on these matters."
However, the Ministry added that it could not confirm any cases of communication secrecy violations or personal information leaks by Line.
Accordingly, Japanese authorities ordered Line to implement measures to ensure the protection of personal information and communication secrecy, and to report on the safety management of internal systems and related measures by the end of next month.
Meanwhile, some local media recently reported that technicians from a Chinese company related to Line were able to access and view information on servers located in Japan.
