[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jinyoung] Yoon Hojung, the floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea and emergency response committee chairman, expressed regret over fake news on the 26th regarding the COVID-19 vaccine supply situation, stating, "Creating vaccine anxiety does not help at all in advancing the timing of herd immunity."

At the emergency response committee meeting held in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province, on the morning of the same day, Chairman Yoon said, "I express regret over the opposition party and some media using wasteful fake news to politicize quarantine measures."

He pointed out, "Such behavior threatens the safety of the people and only delays the restoration of their daily lives," adding, "We must not prioritize party interests while disregarding the safety and lives of the people."

He continued, "As we move into the third quarter, vaccine supplies will be sufficiently secured, and vaccinations will be carried out even in private hospitals, so the vaccination process is expected to accelerate significantly," and said, "Our medical system is very robust, so there should be no major difficulties in vaccination."

Regarding vaccine supply quantities, Chairman Yoon also stated, "The government has succeeded in an additional purchase contract for 40 million doses of the Pfizer vaccine. With this, South Korea has secured a total of 192 million doses, enough for about 1.9 times the population of 99 million," emphasizing, "Considering the use of low dead space syringes, our people can receive more than two doses, so there is no problem."

He added, "The Democratic Party plans to hold an emergency vaccine supply inspection meeting today to review the vaccination plan once again," and said, "We will meticulously check the progress of vaccinations and resolve difficulties on the ground so that smooth vaccinations can be carried out, with the party taking the lead in managing this."
