Dongdaemun-gu Provides Rest Facilities for Office-tel Security Workers as Well

Establishing Basis for Installing Rest Facilities to Improve Working Conditions of District Security Workers...Mandatory Installation of Rest Areas and Heating/Cooling Systems

Dongdaemun-gu Provides Rest Facilities for Office-tel Security Workers as Well

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Yoo Deok-yeol) announced that it has strengthened the review regulations of the Architectural Act Review Committee to make it mandatory to install rest facilities to improve the working environment of security workers.

This requires the mandatory installation of rest facilities for security workers when constructing multi-family housing or officetels subject to building permits, which were previously a blind spot under the Housing Act.

Under the Housing Act, multi-family housing with 50 or more households must have rest facilities for the management office and security personnel, but this did not apply to multi-family housing and officetels subject to building permits, making it difficult to improve the poor working conditions of security workers.

For new construction of officetels (multi-family housing) with 50 or more households or a total floor area of 10,000㎡ or more, even if subject to building permits, rest facilities (management office) where security workers can rest must be secured. The rest facilities must be equipped with bed-type chairs, heating and cooling systems, changing rooms, and restroom (washroom) facilities. These requirements will be reviewed during the Architectural Committee review and specified as conditions for approval.

Yoo Deok-yeol, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, said, “With this measure, we hope to improve the working environment of security workers and facilitate better maintenance and management of quasi-housing buildings.” He added, “We will continue to strive to improve the working conditions of workers in legal blind spots.”
