[Asia Economy Reporter Donghyun Choi] The music video for the group BTS's ‘IDOL’ has surpassed 900 million views.
According to Big Hit Entertainment on the 26th, the YouTube view count of BTS's title track ‘IDOL’ music video from their repackaged album 'LOVE YOURSELF 結 Answer,' released in August 2018, exceeded 900 million views at around 5:59 AM the previous day. When combined with the views of the ‘IDOL (Feat. Nicki Minaj)’ music video featuring pop singer Nicki Minaj, the total views currently exceed 1 billion.
‘IDOL’ ranked 11th on the US Billboard main singles chart ‘Hot 100’ immediately after its release and reached 21st on the UK ‘Official Singles Chart Top 100,’ generating significant attention. BTS won the ‘Music Video of 2018’ award at the ‘2018 E! People’s Choice Awards,’ a US music, film, and TV awards ceremony held in November 2018, for the ‘IDOL’ music video.
The ‘IDOL’ music video captures a lively festival atmosphere set against a backdrop of tropical savanna grasslands, Bukcheong lion dance, Euro-Asian architecture, and traditional Korean styles. In particular, the performance combines Korean samulnori and talchum (mask dance), enhanced by subculture graphic effects, creating a sensory and dazzling visual that captivates viewers.
Including ‘IDOL,’ which recently surpassed 900 million views, BTS holds a total of 31 music videos with over 100 million views each. These include ‘DNA’ and ‘Boy With Luv’ with 1.2 billion views each, ‘Dynamite’ with 1 billion views, ‘FAKE LOVE,’ ‘MIC Drop’ remix, and ‘IDOL’ each with 900 million views, ‘Blood Sweat & Tears’ with 700 million views, ‘Fire’ and ‘Dope’ each with 600 million views, and ‘Save ME’ with 500 million views.
