Artificial Intelligence Arrives at the Library! Newly Transformed Seocho-gu's Innovative AI Integrated Digital Library ▲ 'Library Chatbot Service' ▲ Subscription-Based Book Lending ▲ School Curriculum-Linked 'School Books' ▲ AI 'AI Book Curation'
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seocho-gu (Mayor Eunhee Jo) operates various future-oriented untact libraries tailored to residents to provide a safer reading environment as the importance of non-face-to-face services increases due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.
First, Seocho-gu plans to newly establish a new concept "AI Integrated Electronic Library" that offers various information and service usage based on big data.
In line with the 4th Industrial Revolution era, the Seocho-gu integrated library and electronic library homepage will be completely revamped and implemented in the second half of the year.
First, the district will introduce a "Library Chatbot Service" using the latest IT technology-based AI artificial intelligence system to enable smart provision of book information.
One-stop services such as book search and reservation by library, and linking to desired book requests will be possible, and personalized recommended books can be received using big data.
Also, through a "subscription-type book loan" without restrictions on the number of users, popular books can be used immediately without waiting.
In addition, various electronic library services such as "School Books," which provides book recommendations linked to elementary, middle, and high school curricula and various contents, the English original book platform "OverDrive," and AI-based book curation will be provided.
Moreover, to expand the unmanned loan system suitable for the untact era, the district will expand the non-face-to-face library system. A "Smart Library," which allows 24-hour non-face-to-face use of new book loans and reserved books, will be additionally installed at Gubanpo Station.
Along with this, the unmanned loan system "Untact Library," which allows users to borrow library materials non-face-to-face even when social distancing levels are raised, will be additionally installed at the Banpo Public Library and Naegok Library, enabling users to safely and easily access quality books anytime and anywhere.
Meanwhile, the district will further strengthen the existing non-face-to-face safe book service. Seocho-gu's representative library service, the "Seocho Book Payback Service," which was the first in the nation to be implemented and even patented, is a service that refunds 100% of the book cost if the book is purchased at a nearby local bookstore and returned within three weeks.
The Book Payback Service, which has steadily increased in popularity to the envy of residents in other regions, will be improved from the second half of the year to allow not only existing Book Payback application reservations but also online payments through the homepage, enhancing convenience of use.
Also, the non-face-to-face book delivery service "Seocho Hope Wings Book Service," which allows book loans and returns via delivery for pregnant women, infant caregivers, and seniors who find it difficult to visit the library, has received great response. This year, the eligibility will be expanded to pregnant women up to three months (previously for pregnant women over seven months), and the operating institutions will be expanded to all public libraries in the district.
Seocho-gu Mayor Eunhee Jo said, "By establishing a smart library environment that meets the higher expectations of residents in the 4th Industrial Revolution era, we will continue to expand and develop sustainable book culture services that allow people to safely and conveniently borrow books anytime and anywhere."
