[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Hwang Sumi] In the secondhand trading application Danggeun Market, unprofessional transactions such as reselling gifts or souvenirs, or selling products received for free at a price, are frequently occurring. This has led to the creation of a new term, 'Danggeungeoji,' referring to such unprofessional traders.
There are cases where users demand absurdly low prices or request refunds months after purchase. Additionally, some unprofessional users resell products bought on Danggeun Market at higher prices.
User A on Danggeun Market said, "I bought a table for 30,000 won on Danggeun and sold it again for 30,000 won because it didn’t seem to fit. The buyer then resold it for 90,000 won," expressing disbelief.
Furthermore, the original good intention behind Danggeun Market’s 'free sharing' has been tarnished by some 'Danggeungeoji' engaging in 'reselling.' They make money by pricing and reselling items received for free. As a result, more people are choosing not to participate in free sharing.
User B recently discovered that items they had 'freely shared' on Danggeun Market were listed again on the platform a few days later. These were items given away happily for free but were being resold for 10,000 to 20,000 won. He said, "I feel like my goodwill was exploited," expressing frustration.
Sellers have reacted with feelings of 'emptiness,' lamenting, "Isn’t selling for money wrong? Who would want to do free sharing if items are resold?"
Some users also sell gifts they have received on Danggeun Market. Recently, user C sold a wallet they received as a gift on Danggeun Market. C said, "It wasn’t something I really needed, so I put it up at a low price and it sold immediately."
Netizens’ reactions to the unprofessional trading behavior of so-called 'Danggeungeoji' vary widely. Opinions include, "There is sincerity from the giver; how can you sell that for money?", "Once you receive a gift, ownership fully transfers, so you shouldn’t worry about it," and "I wouldn’t say anything, but I’d feel betrayed," among others.
Meanwhile, according to Danggeun Market’s regulations, reselling at a price higher than the purchase price is prohibited. Members can report such cases to Danggeun Market if discovered.
