[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bong-ju] The story of an American woman who mistook adhesive for artificial tears and put it in her eye has become a hot topic.
According to local media on the 22nd (local time), Yasadra Williams, who lives in Michigan, USA, was greatly shocked when she could not open her eyes after putting artificial tears in her eyes on the night of the 15th to remove her contact lenses.
She had put nail adhesive, contained in a bottle of the same size, into her eyes instead of artificial tears.
Williams said, "I put eye drops in my eyes, but I couldn't open them." She felt even greater pain as the adhesive that entered her eyes hardened.
Before the ambulance arrived at her home, Williams rinsed her eyes with water at home. Thanks to that, she was able to avoid serious harm.
The ophthalmologist who treated her said, "She is not the first patient to put adhesive in her eyes," adding, "I hope this is somewhat reassuring."
In fact, it is reported that there are quite a few patients in the United States who mistake adhesive for eye drops and visit emergency rooms.
Only after removing the eyelid that had stuck together in the emergency room could they remove the contact lens with adhesive on it.
The doctor explained, "If such an accident occurs, you should keep your eyes under running tap water or rinse your eyes with water from a bottle," adding, "Although you will get completely wet, you can save your eyesight."
Williams said, "It hurt like being poked in the eye with a pen. The doctor explained that wearing the contact lenses protected my eyes."
Fortunately, Williams' eyes returned to normal after treatment.
