Suncheon-si, Land Readjustment Project in Gagok District Nears Completion After 21 Years

Suncheon City and Gagok Association Reach Mutual Agreement to Resolve Long-Standing Citizen Issue

Suncheon-si, Land Readjustment Project in Gagok District Nears Completion After 21 Years

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Heo Seok) reached a mutual agreement with the Gagok Association on the 23rd to expedite the completion of the long-delayed land readjustment project in the Gagok district, which has been ongoing for over 20 years.

The Gagok district land readjustment project began in February 2000 and construction was completed in 2014; however, due to the association's financial difficulties and other reasons, public charges such as the sewerage cause-based contribution fee were not paid, preventing the project from being officially completed.

Since 2014, the city has been maintaining and managing facilities such as roads, streetlights, and parks, which the association has found difficult to sustain due to financial hardship, without causing inconvenience to residents.

During this time, residents of Yangwoo Naeanae Apartments (530 households) in the Gagok district faced difficulties exercising property rights, such as being unable to register land ownership because the land was not officially completed and thus could not pass usage inspections for eight years. However, with the completion of the land readjustment project following this agreement, these hardships are expected to be resolved.

Mayor Heo Seok of Suncheon said, “We will do our utmost to provide active administrative support so that the completion process of the Gagok district land readjustment project and the association’s land exchange disposition and announcement procedures can proceed smoothly.”
