[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Jiwon] Kim Hyun-joon, former Commissioner of the National Tax Service (NTS) (54), was appointed on the 23rd as the president of Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH), a position that had been vacant for over four months since last December.

The newly appointed President Kim is from Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province. He graduated from Seoul National University with a degree in Business Administration and began his public service career after passing the 35th Administrative Examination.

During his tenure as NTS Commissioner, he managed a massive organization of 20,000 employees and was recognized for groundbreaking achievements in tax administration, including eradicating real estate speculation and reforming national tax administration.

President Kim is expected to focus on policies to expand housing supply, including follow-up measures to the 2·4 housing plan. He is also anticipated to accelerate efforts to stabilize the organizational atmosphere following the LH employees’ new town land speculation scandal, as well as address urgent management issues such as LH’s functional adjustment and reform.

LH had remained without a president for four months after former President Byun Chang-heum was appointed Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport last December.

Although LH began recruiting for a new president at the end of last year, it failed to find a suitable candidate due to the LH scandal.

Industry insiders analyze that Commissioner Kim is the right person to lead LH, given his experience managing the National Tax Service and his work in the Blue House’s Office of Public Service Discipline Secretary, where he handled audits and personnel verification.

The new standing auditor for LH is also expected to be appointed within this month.
