Yeonggwang-gun Installs 'Smart Garden' to Reduce Fine Dust

[Yeonggwang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seong-jeong] Yeonggwang-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Kim Jun-seong) announced on the 23rd that it selected two companies located in the Daema Electric Vehicle Industrial Complex and installed one cube-type and one wall-type smart garden each to improve working conditions and reduce fine dust.

The 'Smart Garden Creation Project,' implemented since last year, is a new type of indoor garden creation project that provides users with a comfortable resting space in the idle spaces of industrial complex resident companies and public facilities, supported by national funds from the Korea Forest Service without any burden on the companies.

The 'Smart Garden' is divided into cube-type, which is created in a box shape depending on the installation location and conditions, and wall-type, which utilizes the walls of small spaces such as lounges and meeting rooms.

A total of 1,528 plants, including Sanhosu (Coral Tree), known for excellent air purification ability, were planted.

An automatic watering system that supplies water according to the plant growth status and growth lighting that helps plant growth were installed, and for maintenance convenience, it can be operated via smartphone.

According to research and development data on healing, rest, and ornamental gardens for urban residents conducted by the Korean Garden Design Association in 2019, measurements taken after experiencing the smart garden for 10 minutes showed decreases in levels of tension, depression, anger, fatigue, confusion, and stress.

A county official said, "We hope that a more pleasant working environment will be created through rest in indoor gardens these days when outdoor activities have decreased due to COVID-19 and fine dust," and added, "We plan to select four more companies next year, so we look forward to active participation."
