Park Kyung-mi, the Blue House spokesperson, announced around 11:50 a.m. that President Moon had approved the appointment proposal.
The day before, the National Assembly's Special Prosecutor Candidate Recommendation Committee for the Sewol Ferry Disaster Investigation recommended lawyers Lee and Jang Sung-geun as candidates during its third meeting. The president is required to appoint one candidate within three days after receiving two nominees from the committee.
