Shinhan Financial Group is participating in a lights-out event for 10 minutes from 8 p.m. on the 22nd, centered around six group company buildings, to commemorate the 51st anniversary of Earth Day.
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwangho Lee] Shinhan Financial Group announced on the 23rd that it participated in the '51st Earth Day Nationwide Lights Out Event,' turning off the lights for 10 minutes from 8 PM on the 22nd.
The 10-minute lights-out holds symbolic meaning as it reduces energy consumption such as electricity, thereby cutting carbon emissions. As part of the group's eco-friendly strategy called 'Zero Carbon Drive,' Shinhan Financial participated in the event focusing on six buildings including its headquarters and group companies.
Zero Carbon Drive is Shinhan's differentiated eco-friendly financial strategy aligned with international carbon neutrality policies. Based on the goal of reducing the carbon emissions of the group's asset portfolio to '0' by 2050, it sets a new standard for green finance.
Going forward, Shinhan Financial plans to reduce its own carbon emissions by 46% by 2030 and 88% by 2040 using the 'SBTi methodology' in line with the Paris Climate Agreement. The group aims to cut the carbon emissions of its asset portfolio by 38.6% by 2030 and 69% by 2040, and expand green finance support to 30 trillion KRW.
