Recruitment of Advisory Committee Members... Collaboration Centered on AI Specialized Organization AIRS Company
[Asia Economy Reporter Yu Je-hoon] Hyundai Motor Group has recruited a world-renowned scholar to strengthen its in-house artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities.
On the 23rd, Hyundai Motor Group announced that it had appointed Professor Kyunghyun Cho of New York University (NYU) in the United States as an advisory member earlier this month. Professor Cho is recognized as a global expert in the fields of machine learning and AI applications research.
As an AI advisory member for Hyundai Motor Group, Professor Cho will support setting the research and development direction of AI technologies for Hyundai and Kia, and provide consultation on current issues such as the development of necessary AI technologies during the progress of major projects.
Professor Cho developed the 'neural machine translation' algorithm, which understands the context before and after sentences through machine learning, bringing innovation to AI translation services. He has also produced research achievements in various areas, including the 'multimodal AI system' that processes different types of data such as images and text together through AI learning. Based on these accomplishments, Professor Cho was appointed as a tenured professor in 2019, just four years after being appointed as a professor in the Department of Computer Science at NYU.
Hyundai Motor Group's recruitment of a world-class expert to its AI technology advisory panel is aimed at actively responding to the competition in future vehicle development and strengthening expertise in AI technology development for sustainable growth. Hyundai Motor Group plans to concretize the application and development plans of AI technologies that can lead changes in the mobility industry through collaboration with Professor Cho, centered on its dedicated AI organization, 'AIRS Company.'
A Hyundai Motor Group official said, "We are honored to be able to discuss ways to utilize AI technology in the mobility industry with Professor Cho, a world-renowned scholar in the AI field," adding, "We will continue to pursue ongoing technology development and various collaborations with global experts and institutions to become a leader in the future smart mobility era."
