[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Choyoung] On the 22nd, independent lawmaker Hong Joon-pyo advised the People Power Party to "accept the merits and demerits of the Lee Myung-bak and Park Geun-hye administrations and prepare to be judged by the people with a better image."
On the same day, Hong stated on his Facebook, "No matter how much people say it is a fickle world (Yeomnyangsetae), even shameful ancestors are my ancestors, and even shameful parents are my parents."
Hong pointed out, "The roots of the current People Power Party lie in the Democratic Liberal Party, which was formed through the three-party merger in March 1990," and noted that former presidents Roh Tae-woo, Kim Young-sam, Roh Moo-hyun, Kim Dae-jung, Lee Myung-bak, and Park Geun-hye all governed while bearing the merits and demerits of their predecessor administrations.
He added, "The current President Moon Jae-in was formed by the remaining forces of Roh Moo-hyun, who once declared themselves politically extinct, coming together to create a second term of the Roh Moo-hyun administration," and said, "They are not calling for differentiation from or a historical break with the Roh Moo-hyun administration."
He continued, "Dreaming of taking power by severing ties with the previous administration and history is hypocrisy and deception," emphasizing, "Unless power is seized through a coup d'?tat, history flows continuously without interruption."
