[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Lee Sang-hyun] Gimhae City in Gyeongnam announced on the 22nd that it will begin construction in May on the Hwamo Clean Water Circulation Center sewage sludge reduction project, which will serve as the starting point for establishing an energy self-sufficient public sewage system, with a completion target by the end of next year.

The reduction project will involve a total budget of 8.5 billion KRW, including 6 billion KRW in national funds. Once completed, it will reduce the daily average of 120 tons of sewage sludge by more than 10%, saving 500 million KRW annually from the external outsourcing budget of over 1.6 billion KRW.

By increasing the biogas generated in the digester and using it as auxiliary heat for digester heating or sewage sludge treatment facilities, it is expected to achieve an annual budget saving effect of more than 1.3 billion KRW.

Lim Ju-taek, Director of the Water and Sewage Business Office, stated, "This project will be a stepping stone for public sewage facilities that consume energy to become facilities that produce energy."
