Preemptive Testing Conducted for Village Leaders with High Public Contact
[Hampyeong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Jeollanam-do Hampyeong County announced on the 22nd that it will conduct a full survey of 273 village heads in the area as a preemptive response to prevent the spread of COVID-19 within the region.
In response to the recent surge in cluster infections of COVID-19 in nearby Gwangju and Jeollanam-do areas, the county decided to conduct preemptive full testing of village heads who frequently have contact with the public and visit government offices.
This is because the role of village heads has increased with the ongoing vaccination of seniors aged 75 and older, including obtaining vaccination consent forms and monitoring after vaccination, to block any potential risk of infection.
Accordingly, 273 village heads belonging to 9 towns and townships will undergo preemptive testing for seven days from the 21st to the 27th at temporary specimen collection posts set up by each town and township.
The county expects that this preemptive testing will enable early detection of asymptomatic confirmed cases and prevent cluster outbreaks.
Jung Myung-hee, director of the public health center, said, “As COVID-19 confirmed cases continue to occur in neighboring cities and counties, there is a great concern about the spread of community infection,” and added, “We ask for the active participation of the village heads in this preemptive testing.”
