Gyeongbuk Province Reports 23 New Confirmed Cases On the morning of the 21st, a transport vehicle carrying additional vaccine doses directly contracted by the government with Pfizer was leaving the cargo terminal at Incheon International Airport.
The total quantity contracted by the government with Pfizer is 26 million doses (13 million people), of which 7 million doses will be delivered in the first half of the year. With the introduction of 250,000 doses on this day, 1.75 million doses out of the 7 million doses for the first half will be completed.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Jae-ho] On the 21st, new confirmed cases of COVID-19 surged in eight basic local governments in the Gyeongbuk region, including a cluster infection at a daycare center in Gumi city.


According to Gyeongbuk Province on the 22nd, as of midnight, the cumulative number of confirmed cases in the Gyeongbuk region increased by 23 from the previous day to 3,903 (including 100 imported cases). The new confirmed cases by region were 7 in Gumi, 6 in Gyeongsan, 4 in Gyeongju, 2 in Gimcheon, and 1 each in Pohang, Andong, Sangju, and Chilgok County.


The 7 new confirmed cases in Gumi city are related to a daycare center located in Gwangpyeong-dong. At the daycare center, 2 teachers, 2 family members, and 3 children tested positive on the 21st.


The quarantine authorities closed this childcare facility and conducted comprehensive testing on about 20 related individuals. In connection with this, Gumi city issued a closure order for 398 daycare centers until the 9th of next month.


In Gyeongsan city, among the 6 new confirmed cases, 1 person was a contact related to a childcare facility, and 4 others were contacts of the previously confirmed case Gyeongsan 1169.

The remaining 1 person’s infection route was not identified.


Among the 4 new confirmed cases in Gyeongju city, 2 were contacts of Gyeongsan 1162, confirmed on the 19th, 1 was a contact of a confirmed case in the Gyeongnam region on the 18th, and the remaining 1 was a contact of a confirmed case residing in Ulsan, confirmed on the 20th.


In Gimcheon city, 2 contacts of Gimcheon 112, confirmed on the 20th, tested positive, and in Pohang city, 1 contact of Pohang 546, confirmed on the 9th, tested positive before the end of self-quarantine. In Andong city, Sangju city, and Chilgok County, 1 person each tested positive as local infection cases.


In Gyeongsangbuk-do, 152 people (excluding imported cases) were confirmed positive across the region over the past week, resulting in a daily average of 21.7 confirmed cases. Currently, 2,784 people are under self-quarantine.
