Gangnam-gu Awards Certificates of Appreciation to 117 'Hidden Heroes' for Promoting Welfare for People with Disabilities

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangnam-gu (District Mayor Jung Soon-gyun) celebrated the Day of Persons with Disabilities on the 20th with an on-tact commemorative ceremony titled "Together and Connected," which was broadcast live in real-time via the video conferencing platform ZOOM and the district office's YouTube channel.

The ceremony was held both online and offline. The district live-streamed the awards ceremony held at the auditorium on the 6th floor of the Mimiwi Gangnam Saeum Center. The 39 awardees included persons with disabilities, disability organizations, and related facilities who contributed to the promotion of welfare for persons with disabilities.

The district had previously delivered awards to 78 meritorious individuals on the 8th.

The ensemble performance by the Bridgeon Ensemble, an arts group of persons with severe developmental disabilities, was a highlight. To comply with social distancing and quarantine guidelines, the number of attendees on-site was limited to 50, so a pre-recorded congratulatory performance was streamed live.

Events to raise awareness about disabilities were also held. Until the 22nd, the district office's main building first-floor lobby displayed works and products created by disabled artists to promote awareness among residents. Campaign videos correcting misconceptions about disabilities were also available for viewing.

Jang Jeong-eun, Director of the Social Welfare Division, stated, "We will continue to develop customized welfare policies that enhance awareness and understanding of persons with disabilities among residents," adding, "We aim to create a happy city for both persons with and without disabilities as members of a dignified Gangnam who live together with consideration and respect."
