Professor Lee Sang-jun of Dongshin University Receives 2024 Educational Award from the Architectural Institute of Korea

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Gwan-woo] Dongshin University announced on the 21st that Professor Lee Sang-jun of the Department of Architectural Engineering was selected as the recipient of this year's Korean Architectural Institute Education Award.

Since March 1995, Professor Lee has served at Dongshin University for 26 years, cultivating architectural professionals and enhancing the capabilities of public officials and technical experts in the Gwangju and Jeonnam regions through various community education activities.

He has also contributed to the development of architectural education by leading the advancement of academic societies, serving four terms as a director of the University Architectural Society and as president of the Korean Architectural Institute’s Gwangju-Jeonnam branch, and through numerous academic papers and research activities.

He applied field research to university courses such as architectural design, urban design, and capstone design, directly supervising student team projects like "Utilization Plan for Gwangju Abandoned Railway Site" and "Activation Plan for Naju Historical and Cultural City," achieving awards in various competitions.

He has also participated in various volunteer activities for the local community.

Professor Lee engaged in pilot studies, urban architectural design projects, and symposiums aimed at revitalizing the deteriorated old downtown areas of Gwangju and Jeonnam. He actively continued NGO activities by serving as an advisory committee member for Gwangju YMCA’s Good Neighborhood Making, a research committee member of the Gwangju-Jeonnam Environmental Research Institute, and a member of the Green Transportation Transition Forum.

He also participated as an evaluation field inspector for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s "Sustainable City Award," helping to create evaluation guidelines and contributing to Naju City’s first-place win in the 2016 Urban Regeneration General Regeneration category, which secured 10 billion KRW in national funding over five years.

He is also recognized for playing a decisive role in creating preservation and utilization plans for excellent local architectural cultural resources, such as the Blue Road, which has become a landmark in Gwangju, and the preservation of Gwangju Park Citizen Hall.

Professor Lee said, “It is an honor to contribute to the development of the local community through active education, research, and volunteer activities,” adding, “I will continue to devote myself to nurturing professional architectural personnel who can contribute to regional development.”
