[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Gwan-woo] The Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education announced on the 21st that it has signed a business agreement with Chosun University to establish the foundation for the introduction of the high school credit system, which will be fully implemented in 2025, as part of the Bitgoeul High School Credit System Leading District.
This business agreement was promoted to support the operation of high school curricula in preparation for the high school credit system through the linkage between the city education office and the university.
The city education office plans to strive for the enhancement of student-tailored curricula and diversification of high school curricula through the business agreement with Chosun University.
Both institutions agreed to support career and academic planning for local high school students by utilizing human and material resources within the university.
In particular, they plan to continuously carry out the currently operating joint education courses linked between high schools and the university.
Chosun University is currently operating four courses as joint education courses in the first semester to guarantee high school students' subject selection rights: ▲Education ▲Psychology ▲French I ▲Biological Science Experiment.
The city education office will jointly operate teacher job training for elective subjects such as environment and artificial intelligence mathematics, as well as career education programs for students.
Along with this, through continuous consultations with related organizations, efforts will be made to establish the Gwangju-type high school credit system linked with the local community and universities, and the cooperative system will be solidified.
Baek Gi-sang, Director of Secondary Education at the city education office, said, “To operate the high school credit system fully introduced in 2025, it is important for universities, education offices, and local governments to share and cooperate with each other's educational resources,” adding, “We will establish an organic cooperative system with educational stakeholders so that the high school credit system, as a future high school education innovation system tailored to every student's talents and aptitudes, can be firmly established in schools.”
