Gwangju City Council Urges Inclusion of 'Dalbit Naeryuk Railroad' in National Railway Plan

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] The Gwangju Metropolitan Council (Chairman Kim Yong-jip) urged on the 21st to include the 'Gwangju-Daegu Dalbit Inland Railroad,' a symbol of promoting east-west exchange and resolving regional imbalance, in the 4th National Railroad Network Construction Plan.

In a statement on the same day, the Gwangju Metropolitan Council claimed, "So far, the national core transportation network of our country has been built centered on the north-south axis connecting to the Seoul metropolitan area," adding, "This has led to a lack of east-west transportation infrastructure, resulting in regional economic imbalance and concentration in the metropolitan area."

They continued, "The construction of the Dalbit Railroad is a project reflected in the Moon Jae-in administration's pledge for Yeongho-nam mutual growth and national agenda," emphasizing, "It will promote human and material exchanges among the 9.7 million people within the direct and indirect influence area passing through the Dalbit Railroad, becoming a new growth engine for the southern region."

Chairman Kim Yong-jip stated, "The Dalbit Inland Railroad project should not be judged simply by cost-benefit or budget scale," and added, "It is a core infrastructure project for national balanced development and the aspiration of the Yeongho-nam residents, and it must be included as a national project for east-west harmony and, furthermore, national integration."
