[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunwoo Lee] The Biden administration in the United States has reportedly achieved its pledge to administer 200 million COVID-19 vaccine doses within the first 100 days of President Biden's inauguration. With more than half of adults having received at least one dose, the U.S. is expected to declare normalization around the July 4th Independence Day and accelerate the development and distribution of vaccines for children.

According to the Associated Press (AP) on the 20th (local time), the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced that the total number of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the U.S. has surpassed 213.38 million, exceeding the 200 million dose mark. The AP reported that on the 21st, President Biden will announce at the White House that the pledge of 200 million doses within 100 days has been fulfilled, and will deliver a speech regarding the vaccine distribution efforts over the past three months since his inauguration and future vaccine distribution plans.

In the U.S., approximately 131.89 million people have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, which corresponds to 51.1% of adults aged 18 and over. When considering the total population, 40.1% have received at least one dose. Those who have received two or more doses exceed 86.22 million, completing vaccination for 33.3% of adults. The Biden administration plans to distribute vaccines to all adults in the U.S. by the end of May and to the entire population by the end of July, aiming to announce full normalization on July 4th, Independence Day.

Following the passage of a $1.9 trillion economic stimulus package last month and the commencement of fund disbursement, vaccination rates have significantly increased. On January 20th, the day President Biden took office, the average daily vaccination rate in the U.S. was about 1 million doses per week, but it has risen to over 3 million doses per day this month. The AP reported, "The Biden administration was able to accelerate the vaccination pace by actively promoting policies through Americans who received vaccinations using stimulus funds, which helped reduce vaccine hesitancy."
