Jangseong-gun Launches 'Digital New Deal Project' in Full Swing

[Jangseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jo Hangyu] Jangseong County in Jeollanam-do announced on the 21st that it will officially embark on the ‘Digital New Deal Project,’ a core part of the Korean-style New Deal initiative.

The county recently established the ‘3rd Phase Comprehensive Plan for the Computerization of Roads and Underground Facilities’ and has begun the first phase of the project.

The ‘Computerization Project for Roads and Underground Facilities’ involves digitizing various attribute information such as location data and the age of facilities for roads and underground infrastructure.

The county plans to invest 6 billion KRW of local government funds by 2026 to computerize the entire county area.

The project will be carried out over six years in three phases, with the first phase currently underway covering a 303 km section in the Jinwon-myeon, Nam-myeon, and Hwangryong-myeon areas.

By accumulating high-quality data, the county will establish a core foundation for the ‘Digital Twin’ technology it plans to promote.

‘Digital Twin’ technology creates an identical virtual object in cyberspace to conduct various simulations, allowing the monitoring of the condition of facilities and equipment or predicting accidents within the virtual world.

Before undertaking large-scale construction such as road excavation, using Digital Twin technology to simulate the site can help prevent safety accidents in advance.

Reflecting regional characteristics, it can also be applied to transportation, tourism, healthcare, and welfare services, and in the future, it is expected to create ‘future growth engines’ through convergence with various new growth industries utilizing spatial information.

County Governor Yoo Doo-seok stated, “We plan to complete the computerization of roads and underground facilities throughout Jangseong to enhance the safety of residents’ living spaces,” adding, “The accumulated database will serve as a blueprint leading urban development by integrating with various new technologies in the future.”
