[Asia Economy Reporter Baek Kyunghwan] Park Beom-gye, Minister of Justice, addressed concerns about delays in the selection process for the next Prosecutor General, stating, "Whether intentional or not, there are various phenomena affecting the selection framework."
On the 21st, Minister Park spoke to reporters on his way to the Ministry of Justice Government Gwacheon Complex, saying, "We are trying to roughly set the schedule."
In particular, when asked whether the investigation of Lee Seong-yoon, Chief Prosecutor of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office and a candidate for the next Prosecutor General, was affecting the scheduling, he replied, "The judgment is up to you," adding, "It would be desirable to disclose the Prosecutor General selection schedule in detail, but there are various actions and reactions, whether intentional or unintentional." Earlier, on the 17th, Chief Prosecutor Lee appeared as a suspect at the Suwon District Prosecutors' Office, which is investigating allegations of illegal travel bans involving former Deputy Minister of Justice Kim Hak-ui, and was questioned.
However, Minister Park indicated that he is "currently setting the schedule" for the (Prosecutor General Candidate Recommendation Committee) and expressed his intention not to delay any further.
Meanwhile, during the National Assembly's government questioning session on the 19th, Minister Park announced the initiation of disciplinary procedures against two of the three prosecutors who received alcohol entertainment related to the 'Lime case.' Regarding why only two are being disciplined, he explained, "If there are any insufficient parts, we plan to proceed with the process after further verification." Regarding the disciplinary action against Deputy Chief Prosecutor Jeong Jin-ung of the Gwangju District Prosecutors' Office, who is currently on trial for charges of abuse of authority against Prosecutor General Han Dong-hoon, he stated, "We are trying to handle it according to the principles and standards we have in mind."
