[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] Hanwha Q CELLS announced on the 21st that it will supply modules for a solar power project promoted by the Angolan government. The project, which involves building seven power plants in six provinces of Angola, is said by the company to be the largest solar power project in Southern Africa.
The first power plant is scheduled to be completed in the third quarter of 2022. With a capacity of 370 MW, the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) is being handled by Portugal's MCA. This solar power plant is expected to meet the electricity demand of 2.4 million local residents and reduce approximately 940,000 tons of carbon dioxide annually.
Hanwha Q CELLS has been supplying modules to solar power plants constructed through public and private projects in Africa. It has provided modules to overseas EPC companies responsible for power plant construction and African regional EPC firms in countries such as Senegal, Morocco, and Tunisia. This is the first time in Angola. Kim Hee-chul, President of Hanwha Q CELLS, said, "The solar power plants to be built through this project will play an important role in creating a better electricity usage environment for local communities."
