Goheung-gun, Recruiting Participants for Motem School Cultural City Program

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Goheung-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Song Gwi-geun) announced on the 20th that it will operate the ‘Goheung Cultural City Motam School’ from the 12th of next month until July 28, and asked for active participation from the residents.

The participants are anyone who will help create the Goheung Cultural City, and applications can be submitted online or offline to the Goheung-gun Culture and Arts department by the 7th of next month.

‘Cultural Motam’ is a noun form of ‘Motaeda,’ a Jeolla dialect word meaning ‘to gather,’ referring to a place where various members of Goheung-gun gather to freely share stories about the cultural city of Goheung.

This ‘Goheung Cultural City Motam School’ is a cultural planning school established to strengthen the cultural capabilities of residents, with a total of 12 educational sessions including online education, offline workshops, and field training.

The ‘Motam School’ is designed with an educational curriculum aimed at expanding the cultural base for the smooth promotion of the Goheung Cultural City project and fostering cultural professionals to nurture the Goheung cultural ecosystem. It aims to equip local cultural planners with the competencies of ‘practitioner,’ ‘social member,’ ‘cultural member,’ and ‘creator.’

A county official stated, “It is expected that the local cultural planners trained through the Motam School course will become key agents in various activities to realize the cultural city.”

Since 2018, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has designated legal cultural cities under the motto that every region is special, discovering and cultivating the unique cultural values of each region together with its citizens.

Last year, the county established a plan to become a cultural city and operated the ‘Goheung Cultural Motam,’ which gathered and discussed diverse opinions from residents. Following the Cultural Motam, it is expected that the Motam School operation next year will harness the residents’ activity power.

Among the total 12 sessions of the Motam School, online education for individual capacity building will be conducted on the themes of ‘Sustainable Local Culture and Cultural Planning,’ ‘Cultural Planning and Project Managing,’ ‘Creative Problem-Solving Methodology,’ and ‘Community and Governance.’

Offline education will be conducted in a workshop format focusing on networking and collaboration, consisting of ‘Cultural Planning Concept 1 and 2’ and ‘Cultural Planning Realization 1 and 2.’ Additionally, field training will include visits to advanced cultural cities and exploration of the county’s urban culture.

Furthermore, to motivate participants, prize money will be awarded to a total of four project teams planned during the course: 1st place (1 team) will receive 500,000 KRW, 2nd place (2 teams) 200,000 KRW each, and 3rd place (1 team) 100,000 KRW, all in Goheung Love Gift Certificates.
