As a Community Garden Cultivated Together with Residents
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] The Dosadong Residents' Autonomous Committee in Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do, announced on the 20th that they have created a flower garden cultivated together with residents on idle land in the district that had been neglected with garbage and waste.
The idle land located along the main road was a place that displeased citizens and tourists due to indiscriminate dumping of trash and abandonment of waste.
In 2019, the Dosadong Residents' Autonomous Committee took the lead in creating a small garden for environmental cleanup and aesthetic improvement, and this year, it was selected as a target site for the 'Pretty Street Making Contest' under the village community activity support project promoted by Jeollanam-do.
Kim Su-won, head of the Ecology Division of the Dosadong Residents' Autonomous Committee, who promoted the garden creation, said, "We hope the small garden will provide comfort and rest to tourists visiting Suncheon and local residents who are weary from the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic," adding, "We plan to provide the vegetable garden area behind the flower garden to residents to cultivate together as a shared garden."
Kim Seon-jung, chairman of the Dosadong Residents' Autonomous Committee, also said, "Through activities of cultivating the vegetable garden and caring for the flower garden together, we hope it will be an opportunity to reconnect hearts and reflect on the meaning of the community, which has been declining."
A Dosadong official stated, "We believe that the exemplary community case where residents voluntarily participate and work together will spread and serve as a step closer to the true ecological capital, Suncheon," and expressed deep gratitude to all who participated despite difficult circumstances.
