[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] It was announced on the 20th that the research team led by Professor Lee Sang-seok of Suncheon National University (Department of Animal Resources Science) was selected for the "Development of a Korean-style Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction Feeding Management System" project under the 2025 Livestock Issue Response Advancement and Industrialization Technology Development Project implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.
In this project, which the government promoted to support the advancement of technology and industrialization technology development to solve urgent issues in the livestock sector and strengthen the competitiveness of the livestock industry, the Suncheon National University consortium was selected for the research task on "Development of Livestock Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction Technology" in the field of improving livestock production efficiency.
The research involves participating institutions including Chungnam National University, Gyeongsang National University, and Jin Biotech Co., Ltd. The research team will receive research funding of approximately 2.4 billion KRW over the next five years to continue development research aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions from domestic livestock by regulating the intestinal microbial ecosystem of livestock and developing high-functional feed.
Professor Lee Sang-seok of Suncheon National University said, "Over many years, we have enhanced our research capabilities by publishing various research achievements in renowned international journals, including the development of microbial feed to reduce methane in livestock, analysis of greenhouse gas emissions in animals' intestines, and investigation of greenhouse gas emissions from domestic ruminants." He added, "As countries are rolling up their sleeves to reduce methane gas emissions from ruminant livestock related to greenhouse gas reduction, I hope to promote the domestic introduction and commercialization of research outcomes through this project."
