[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jun-gyeong] Lee Hyuk-je, a member of the Jeonnam Provincial Assembly (Democratic Party of Korea·Mokpo 4), visited Jeonnam Provincial College on the 20th to discuss cooperation plans for career programs with President Park Byung-ho and the Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education.
The visit was attended by Hwang Tae-sik, Superintendent of the Career and Admission Team of Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education, Education Officer Jo Gi-seong, and Kim Cheol-ju, Director of Damyang Education Support Office.
They discussed the career program for middle and high school students in the central region of Jeonnam Provincial College, which Assemblyman Lee proposed during the 347th Jeonnam Provincial Assembly temporary session in October last year.
In the previous provincial administration inquiry, Assemblyman Lee requested the operation of career programs at the provincial college in response to the middle school free semester system and the expansion of comprehensive student record screening for university admissions, and asked the Office of Education to support the budget.
This year, the Office of Education increased the budget by 50 million won for the provincial college in addition to the 100 million won allocated to Mokpo National University and Suncheon National University for the high school-college linkage program in the main budget.
Assemblyman Lee Hyuk-je said, “Mokpo National University provides various programs for students in the western region, and Suncheon National University does so for the eastern region. Therefore, the budget was supported for the provincial college for students in the central-northern region,” adding, “I request that the provincial college actively cooperate with the Office of Education to operate specialized career programs.”
President Park Byung-ho stated, “The provincial college has various departments and can provide necessary major experiences for students of Jeonnam specialized high schools,” and added, “We will strive to attract students by offering diverse programs for students of Jeonnam specialized high schools.”
Superintendent Hwang Tae-sik said, “Jeonnam Provincial College and Jeonnam Office of Education will maintain a cooperative relationship for students’ career and academic advancement through a business agreement,” and noted, “While Mokpo National University and Suncheon National University focus on general high schools, the provincial college’s role for specialized high school students is expected.”
Assemblyman Lee Hyuk-je, a former admissions officer, led the establishment of the Admission Support Center and the university admission support system at the Jeonnam Office of Education, and is working to operate career programs at Jeonnam Provincial College following Mokpo National University and Suncheon National University to support the career and academic advancement of Jeonnam students.
