[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Gwan-woo] The policy research club ‘Tan·Da (Carbon Diet)’ affiliated with the Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education has launched activities under the theme ‘Research on Low-Carbon Lifestyle Practices in the Era of Climate Crisis.’
According to the Metropolitan Office of Education on the 20th, the policy research club ‘Tan·Da’ was selected last month as a professional learning community for educational administration institutions this year and is composed of staff members from the Metropolitan Office of Education and its affiliated institutions.
‘Tan·Da’ plans to carry out practical activities once a month with the goal of finding lifestyle practices that can reduce carbon emissions.
They also decided to conduct campaigns sharing weekly lifestyle practice tasks such as practicing vegetarianism once a week, reducing waste, and using public transportation.
In the future, they will collect outstanding cases of practice and conduct various climate crisis response activities such as book discussions, field explorations, and meetings with climate activists.
Members of the ‘Tan·Da’ club visited the Gwangju Environmental Corporation on the 16th. Starting as a sanitation treatment management office in 1977 and renamed to its current name in 2013, the Gwangju Environmental Corporation operates facilities such as sewage treatment, sanitation treatment, and food waste recycling at five business sites including the Gwangju branch located in Chipyeong-dong, Seo-gu.
A member of the ‘Tan·Da’ club who toured the No. 1 Sewage Treatment Plant and Food Waste Recycling Facility within the Gwangju Environmental Corporation said, “It was an opportunity to seriously reflect on the amount of household waste generated and the seriousness of environmental issues, and to empathize more deeply with the necessity and urgency of practicing these in daily life.”
The policy research club ‘Tan·Da’ will continue to practice a lifestyle that reduces carbon emissions together with the Climate Crisis Emergency Action Task Force within the Metropolitan Office of Education, raise awareness of the climate crisis among staff members, and carry out voluntary practical activities of the educational community for sustainable living.
