[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] Acting Prosecutor General Cho Nam-gwan (Deputy Prosecutor General) met with newly appointed chief prosecutors and emphasized that "the value the prosecution should pursue lies solely in justice and fairness for the people."
On the morning of the 20th, Acting Prosecutor General Cho visited the Legal Research and Training Institute in Jincheon, Chungbuk, and spent about 70 minutes talking with over 30 prosecutors undergoing 'New Chief Prosecutor Leadership Training.'
At the meeting, he said, "The public's perception of the prosecution is that it is 'powerful and intimidating, weak against the strong, arrogant, and closed.' Therefore, we must always reflect on ourselves and, with humility and a modest attitude, ensure that the new chiefs lead by example in warmly guiding their juniors to resolve the grievances of the people."
He then quoted General Yi Sun-sin's line from the movie Myeongryang: "In the battlefield, a commander's loyalty lies in devotion, and that devotion should be directed not to the king but to the people," adding, "In investigations, the prosecution's loyalty is to justice, and that justice must be directed to the people, not those in power." He emphasized, "The value the prosecution should pursue lies solely in 'justice and fairness for the people.'"
This is the first time Acting Prosecutor General Cho has left the Supreme Prosecutors' Office on an official schedule to meet frontline prosecutors. Previously, on the 14th, Minister of Justice Park Beom-gye also visited the Legal Research and Training Institute and urged the new chief prosecutors to "make efforts to improve organizational culture."
