Yeosu City Imposes Triple Fines for Parking or Stopping in Child Protection Zones

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] Yeosu City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Kwon Oh-bong) announced on the 20th that starting from the 11th of next month, fines for illegal parking and stopping in school zones will be significantly increased.

This is in accordance with the revised Enforcement Decree of the Road Traffic Act as part of measures to strengthen children's traffic safety, imposing fines of 120,000 KRW for passenger cars and 130,000 KRW for vans.

Currently, fines for illegal parking and stopping in school zones are 80,000 KRW for passenger cars and 90,000 KRW for vans, which is twice the fine for general roads. With the revised decree applied, passenger cars will have to pay three times the fine compared to general roads.

The city plans to distribute notices about the increased fines and widely inform citizens through SNS to establish a culture of traffic safety within school zones.

They also intend to continuously promote the resident reporting system for parking and stopping violations using the Safety Report App to eradicate illegal parking and stopping, which are major causes of traffic accidents in school zones.

A city official stated, “We will do our best to create a walking environment where children can walk safely by eradicating illegal parking and stopping that threaten children's pedestrian safety,” and added, “We ask for citizens' special attention for the safety of children.”

Meanwhile, Yeosu City's school zones include a total of 114 locations: 51 elementary schools, 49 kindergartens, 13 childcare facilities, and 1 special school.
