"Mask Distribution Again" Busan Gijang-gun to Provide 5th Free Supply of Health Masks to All Residents Busan Gijang County Office.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Busan's Gijang-gun is beginning the fifth round of free mask distribution to all residents. There has never been a case where a basic local government has provided free masks to all residents in five rounds.

Gijang-gun announced on the 20th that, amid growing concerns over the fourth wave of COVID-19 due to a rapid increase in confirmed cases, it will provide all residents with KF94-grade health masks.

Since February last year, when it first distributed masks free of charge to all households in the area nationwide, Gijang-gun has distributed 4.2 million masks over four rounds.

This is the fifth distribution. Starting from the 26th, a total of 3.52 million masks (3.14 million for adults and 380,000 for children) will be distributed to approximately 176,000 residents, with 20 masks per person.

Additionally, from the 20th, about 30,000 masks will be sequentially distributed to special occupation workers who come into contact with local residents, with 20 masks per person. This includes individual taxi drivers, corporate taxi drivers, village bus and Gijang-gun bus drivers, delivery drivers, and post office mail carriers.

Including the masks distributed this time, the total number of masks provided by Gijang-gun has reached 7.75 million.

Gijang-gun plans to distribute an additional 20 masks per person to all residents again in the second half of this year.

Oh Gyu-seok, the mayor of Gijang-gun, said, “Until herd immunity is formed through vaccination, the only thing to rely on is wearing masks, and I hope everyone makes wearing masks indoors and outdoors a daily habit until COVID-19 is eradicated.”
