[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] A civic group in Gwangju has produced and distributed a video supporting “Opposition to the Myanmar Coup and Support for Democratization.”

Participation Autonomy 21 announced on the 20th that they created the video to express solidarity with the people of Myanmar who are fighting for democracy against the military coup by the Myanmar military junta.

The video was produced at the 5·18 Democracy Square, which was the center of the May 18 Democratic Movement. Participation Autonomy 21 explained that this was to express the sentiment of not forgetting Myanmar just as Gwangju does not forget the May 18 event.

They stated, “The massacre occurring in Myanmar by the military coup forces resembles the massacre during the May 18 event,” and emphasized, “Just as the sacrifice of May 18 was revived as a victory for democracy, we hope that the sacrifices of the Myanmar people will be reborn as a great victory achieving justice and peace.”

They added, “The Myanmar-Gwangju Solidarity dedicates this video to the people of Myanmar with this wish,” and said, “We hope our earnest wish reaches the people of Myanmar.”

The video can be freely used by anyone who has the intention and heart to support the people of Myanmar.
