Gwangju City Promotes Housing Renovation Project for Disabled Residents in Rural Areas

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 20th that it will promote the 2021 Rural Disabled Housing Renovation Project to improve housing convenience for low-income registered disabled households living in rural fishing villages.

This year's project selected 10 disabled households in rural areas through a demand survey conducted by autonomous districts, providing a total of 38 million KRW, with 3.8 million KRW per household.

Before promoting the project, Gwangju City accepted applications through administrative welfare centers from registered disabled households living in rural areas whose monthly average income per household was below the previous year's urban worker household average income (7,094,205 KRW for a family of four). The target households were selected by comprehensively considering on-site surveys, income criteria, type and overall degree of disability, and urgency of housing renovation.

Selected households will be provided with various convenience facilities for the disabled within the house, such as bathroom renovation, kitchen and bathroom repairs, entrance door repairs, installation of ramps and doors at the entrance, to enhance daily living convenience.

Jung Hyun-yoon, Director of the Housing Policy Division of the city, said, “We will do our best to improve the housing environment of disabled households living in poor housing conditions through the Rural Disabled Housing Renovation Project.”
